Where did IPCC-FAR, Figure 7.1c Come From?

Image
IPCC 1990, Figure 7.1c is a Replica of the Lamb 1965, Figure 3a, "Analyst's Opinion" In the IPCC's First Assessment Report, published in 1990, three schematics were published that were labeled, "schematic diagrams of global temperature variations." The third (c) schematic was labeled, "the last thousand years" with a dashed line that "nominally represents conditions near the beginning of the twentieth century." The graph is below. IPCC-FAR 1990, Figure 7.1c "Schematic diagram of temperature variations over the last thousand years. The dotted line nominally represents conditions near the beginning of the twentieth century." I think it may be fair to say that the biggest mistake the IPCC has ever made was using the word "global" with reference to the (c) schematic, because that objectively is not the case. It was a replica of Hubert Lamb's reconstruction of Central England temperature (CET), where Central England is ...

Responding to the CO2 Coalition's "Fact #10" on When Modern Warming Began

Image
CO2 Coalition 's " Fact #10 " claims that what they call "modern warming" began more than 300 years ago. In their words, "the current warming trend we are in began in the year 1695. The next 40 years had more than twice the rate of warming as we experienced in the 20th century. The first half of this 300-plus year warming had about the same amount of temperature rise as the latter half and was entirely naturally driven." The graph they use to support this claim is below. You may be noticing some recurring themes in the CO2 Coalition bag of tricks - in this case, to use local temperatures in place of global temperatures. They use Central England Temperatures (HadCET) instead of GMST datasets (either proxies or the instrumental record).  HadCET isn't terribly reliable even for Central England during the early years of the dataset, and especially prior to 1772.[1] But data quality issues aside, Central England isn't and never has been the globe. Review of Inconvenient Facts, Part 2 - Temperature

Image
Pages 2K Reconstruction of Global Temperatures Replicating MBH98/99 In a previous post , I wrote an initial review of Gregory Wrightstone's Book, Inconvenient Facts. We began to see that Mr. Wrightstone's book was pretty low on facts and high on convenience - that is, Wrightstone's claims would be very convenient for us if we believe him, since if there is no problem, we have no compelling reason to fix a non-existent problem. That post covered only the first two chapters of his book. Chapter 3 is supposed to contain more inconvenient facts about temperature, but what we get is a lot of misinformation about temperature based on 1) the rejection of scientific evidence about temperature and 2) the confusion of global temperatures with local temperatures, including 2a) Central England and 2b) the Greenland summit, and 3) the misuse of a terrible proxy reconstruction. Confusion About Proxies Mr. Wrightstone (somewhat) correctly observes that, if global (or Northern Hemisphere)...
